letter from the president of the CBBF - Mark Smishek

Hello
CBBF Fans:
It's been a while since my last installment. I have spent
the past months communicating with the President of the IFBB,
Dr. Rafael Santonja as well as the President of the NPC and
the IFBB Pro League, Mr. Jim Manion, with many new decisions
being discussed. A few of which you will see in the following
text.
I have been working closely with both the Amateur and Professional
sides of our governing body the IFBB and though we are still
waiting for the minutes of the World Congress, held in Manama
City, Bahrain from 2008 we will provide a few of the changes.
1) First and foremost the IFBB and the CBBF are AMATEUR organizations,
which means our athletes should not be competing for or attaining
cash or cash prizes, as some of the competitive organizations
are providing. Once an athlete is provided an IFBB Pro League
Card they then can compete for financial prizes, endorsements,
etc.
After discussion with many of your Provincial Presidents it
became apparent that there were issues with the new policy
to protect our athletes from competing for financial gain.
Following many conversations with the IFBB Amateur and Professional
leaders the policy now in place provided athletes a one-time
chance of gaining re-entry in the CBBF. I have heard that
many trainers and their athletes may have issues with this
decision, I will not defend the actions taken, other than
to say that the CBBF is an AMATEUR FEDERATION under the banner
of the IFBB.
If athletes wish to compete elsewhere we wish them well, however
if they wish to compete on the International stage at far-off
location against the best in the world, or compete against
the top professional athletes, then the CBBF is where you
may wish to compete.
2) For 2009 and the future our past World Qualifying event
shall now be known as the Natural Physique Championships.
We shall maintain the fine work provided by the CCES and IOC
Laboratory, which are under the governance of WADA. In 2008
WADA formally accepted the IFBB as a recognized member organization.
The CBBF has been recognized by the IFBB and many of the countries,
under the IFBB banner as a leader in the sport against performance
enhancing drugs. |

2009
CBBF Figure and Fitness Championships - Bikini Division
|
The CBBF will be providing the Bikini Division
at the 2009 CBBF Figure and Fitness Championships, held in
New Westminster, BC, on August 15th.
As this is the first Bikini event The CBBF will provide only
two classes, such as the Arnold Amateur Classic. In 2010 we
will institute 4 classes.
This year the classes will be:
Up to and including 162.6cm (5'4")
Over 162.6 cm (Over 5'4")
The ABBA Fitness Model competition will be the pre qualifier
for this National event, the ABBA is in discussions with the
promoter which will determine if we have 2 classes at the
ABBA Fitness model competition this June 13. We will then
determine the number of bi’s that will be granted from this
years’ competition. It should be noted that Fitness Model
(Bikini Division) will become and IFBB Pro discipline, I would
like to thank Debbie Leung for her wisdom in the initiation
of this competition one year prior to this being announced;
this foresight has allowed the ABBA to establish athlete experience
for this discipline.
Below are the Fitness Model (Bikini Division) rules for the

providing the Bikini Division at the 2009 CBBF Figure and
Fitness Championships, held in New Westminster, BC, on August
15th.
If you would view the following attachment file, you will
see the NPC rules for Bikini, we shall follow these rules,
as this sport is in its infancy and will provide more data
as it becomes available.

Reminder on Posing
Attire at ABBA events
|
The guidelines
for the ABBA are consistent with the CBBF rules as outlined
below.
Posing Attire and Stage Presentation
The posing attire must meet the following guidelines:
1. Male competitors will wear posing trunks of a solid, non-distracting
colour, which are clean and decent.
2. Female competitors will wear bikinis of a solid, non-distracting
colour, which must conform to accepted standards of taste
and decency. The bikini will reveal the abdominal muscles
as well as the lower back muscles. The bikini bottom must
cover at least ˝ of the gluteus maximus. The fastenings of
the bikini will be plain, with no attached ornamentation.
3. All competitors will wear the posing attire, during both
Prejudging and Finals, that was approved by the CBBF Chief
Judge at Official Weigh ins. Unauthorized use of any other
posing attire is strictly prohibited without the prior approval
of the CBBF Chief Judge and may lead to disqualification from
the event.
Stage Presentation
The use of props during the Prejudging or Finals presentation
is strictly prohibited.
